Which colours will work well together?

Because most bathroom suites are white, you’ve essentially got a blank canvas when it comes to choosing coloured wall tiles.

You may prefer to go for varying shades of the same colour, pick two or three contrasting colours or tile the whole room in a rainbow of colours.

It’s well worth ordering several sample tiles to see how they will look together and what they’ll look like in your bathroom. Have a look at images of coloured bathrooms online (Instagram and Pinterest are great places to start). It’s a valuable source of inspiration and you may come across something you’d never thought about trying.

Don’t be afraid to be bold, throw caution to the wind and inject some much-needed colour into one of the smallest rooms in the house.

Glorious multicoloured bathroom tile ideas

We’ve rounded up some of our favourite multicoloured tiled bathroom designs to get you started on your journey to the bright side. Get ready for a riot of colour!

Tile a wall in rainbow brights

Taking coloured bathroom tiles to the next level, this rainbow-inspired wall is an incredible display of colour and makes a huge statement. The owner of this bathroom was asked to create a bathroom in the colours of the rainbow by her children. She says that the room still makes her happy every day. The white toilet, radiator and shower tray and crisp white grout keep it looking chic.

Create a focal point with incredible iridescent tiles

Beautiful glass tiles are a more subtle way to introduce colour into your bathroom. Multi-tonal tiles are perfect for creating borders, splashbacks and feature walls. These small subway tiles have been given pride of place in this bathroom, making a fantastic focal point of the shower enclosure.

Incorporate muted rainbow stripes

If you love the idea of rainbow tiles but don’t want to include such vibrant colours on your wall, choose muted versions to create a paired-down rainbow effect. No less striking, these multicoloured metro tiles have been broken up with white to make a stunning pattern. Tiling the bath surround is a great design move, keeping the look consistent. The rest of the room is finished in pure white, making the stripes pop even more.

Try clever combinations

Terrazzo tiles, once popular in the 70s are right back in style. Combining different chips of colour within the tile, they’re a stylish way to bring different colours to your bathroom. For extra impact, match surrounding tiles with one of the colours in the terrazzo tile like the vibrant orange below.

Tile a patchwork wall

We’re loving all the colours in this kitsch bathroom. Have fun combining different patterns and colours to create an eclectic patchwork-effect wall. Keep an eye out for reclaimed tiles on second-hand sites and end-of-line tiles. As long as the tiles are the same size, you can combine different patterns to great effect. Keep the spaces between the tiles small and use bright, white grout to finish the look.

Get creative with iridescent mosaics

Timeless and elegant, iridescent mirror mosaic tiles will add a luxury feel to your bathroom. Tile a shower enclosure, splashback, feature wall or the whole room! The beauty of these tiles is that they’ll look different depending on the light and the direction that they are viewed from. Finish the look with stylish brassware for maximum effect.

Transform your bathroom with paired down pastels

If brights aren’t your thing but you’d still like to add a colourful look to your bathroom, you can create a breathtakingly beautiful look with pastel shades. In this home, muted, multicoloured metro tiles have been used to create an incredible statement wall.

Experiment with shades of blue

Multi-colours don’t have to include every colour on the spectrum, you can create a wonderfully varied look with several shades of the same colour. This herringbone tiled bathroom wall uses a few different shades of blue for a powerful effect.

Add colour with Moroccan-style tiles

Traditional Moroccan tiles are usually created from local clays and finished with vivid patterns in a range of colours. These tiles look fantastic combined with black and gold and are sure to make a bold style statement wherever they are placed in your bathroom, whether on the floor, the walls or as a feature splashback.

Have fun with multi-hued marble

Think of marble, and white stone with black veins probably springs to mind. Marble is, however, one of the most colourful stones on the planet, available in shades of blue, green, red and more. The purest marbles are the lightest and the deeper coloured marbles are created from natural impurities such as iron oxides and clay minerals.

Mix coloured and white tiles

If you’re not keen on floor-to-ceiling multicoloured tiles in your bathroom, you can dilute the effect by adding a few white tiles into the mix. Randomly insert different coloured tiles for the best effect. You can include as many or as few as you like.

Add style with beautifully patterned wall tiles

These delicately patterned floral tiles are a subtle way to bring multicoloured tiles into your bathroom. Suitable for traditional and modern bathrooms alike, pick a colour from the tile and use it as an accent colour for the walls to tie the look together.

We’re getting all the retro feels for this amazing space. It’s hard to think of a better way to introduce colour to a bathroom than by adding a literal rainbow. What a perfect way to put a smile on everyone’s face.
