How to Install SunStone Underfloor Heating

Installation of SunStone underfloor heating systems is simple. If you are an experienced DIYer, you might be able to install it yourself. Most people, however, hire an experienced tiler or electrician to install the system to make sure it is in full working order and save time. For a professional, it’s usually a small job and should not take long.

It also depends on the system that you are installing. If you are using mats, it’s a lot quicker and easier to install. If you’re using a loose wiring system, however, it takes longer and is a bit trickier. It depends on the room and how many obstacles there are in it.

SunStone Products We Sell

We sell a wide range of SunStone products including:

  • Cement Coated and Uncoated Insulation Boards
  • Loose Wire Systems
  • Underfloor Heating Mats
  • Thermostats

Here is some more information on each of these product categories.

SunStone Cement Coated and Uncoated Insulation Boards

The SunStone Cement Coated and Uncoated Insulation Boards are tough, durable and provide excellent insulation and waterproofing together in one product. When you install a new heating system, you want to ensure you are keeping your heating costs down to a minimum, and that’s exactly what these insulation boards will do.

The boards are designed to reduce downwards heating loss to ensure that more of the heat goes into the room and stays there to create a comfortable environment.

Made from extruded polystyrene with a polymer-modified cement mortar reinforced by glass fibre mesh, the boards provide high thermal insulation to increase energy efficiency. They also provide additional soundproofing.

They come in various sizes. The coated boards are available in 6mm, 10mm or 20mm thicknesses, and the uncoated boards are available in 10mm or 20mm thicknesses.

The material can easily be cut with a utility knife so you can shape the boards to fit your room. You can attach them to subfloors made from timber or concrete, and you can then install your heating system directly above the boards.

SunStone Underfloor Heating Mat

The SunStone underfloor heating mats are designed specifically to be used with stone and ceramic tiles. The mats are ideal for providing warm heating in tiled rooms with regular shapes, and they are incredibly easy to install. Simply unroll the mat across the floors up to the wall, cut it and then roll it back the other way – it’s the fastest way to get underfloor heating in your home.

With the mats (150w and 200w), the wire fixed to the glass-fibre mesh, and they provide an even heat distribution by providing the ideal amount of space between the lines of cable. They are ideal for rooms like conservatories with a high degree of heat loss, and they are also perfectly suited to rooms where there are no obstacles to get around.

SunStone Loose Wire System

This flexible wire is the underfloor heating you need for rooms that have irregular shapes or have lots of fixtures in them like baths and cupboards, making it ideal for kitchens and bathrooms.

With this wire, you can install underfloor heating no matter how awkwardly shaped your rooms are. Simply use the high-quality heating cable to go around all the objects in the way and get into all the places where you cannot put a standard heating mat.

Heat output varies depending on your needs, and you can choose reduced cable spacing for more heat output. Ask us about this if you would like more information.

SunStone Thermostats

SunStone provides a range of programmable thermostats to control the heating of your system. These offer very precise controls to provide you with a simple way to change the temperature of your underfloor heating. You can also programme your thermostat to cut wastage and energy costs. The thermostats come with a 2-year warranty.

The SunStone Touchscreen Thermostat has an attractive design with white casing and a blue screen to look great in any room. It is very quick to set up and it is easy to use. It has both floor and air sensors, so it works with central heating and underfloor heating, and it has a clear interface. It is compatible with all the SunStone heaters. You could be sitting in a luxury room of warmth and comfort at such ease. If you need a guide on how the thermostats work, check out the product page for further details.
